Beginning 1 July 2020, the Kew Recreation Centre will undergo an exciting redevelopment to provide the community with a modern, state-of-the-art facility catering to all ages and abilities.

Your membership with the Boroondara Leisure and Aquatic Facilities gives you access to all four recreation centres in Boroondara. This means your health and wellness journey with us doesn’t end here. We have worked with the City of Boroondara to ensure the programming and instructors you are used to will remain as consistent as possible across our other facilities. The three other facilities you have access to as part of your membership are Hawthorn Aquatic and Leisure Centre, Boroondara Sports Complex and Ashburton Pool & Recreation Centre,

This web page has been designed to provide an overview of the alternative options available to you.

Below are some FAQs regarding the centre closure.

  • Membership FAQs

What if I do not want to use the other Boroondara Leisure & Aquatic Facilities when Kew Recreation Centre closes?

If you do not wish to continue being a member of the Boroondara Leisure and Aquatic Facilities you will need to inform Kew Recreation Centre staff by completing a cancellation form in centre prior to 30 June 2020. We will also be offering free suspension for the expected two year closure period. If you would like to suspend over the closure period, please complete a suspension request in centre.

What can I do if I am not sure if I want to remain a member at the other Boroondara Leisure and Aquatic Facilities?

We are offering a three month grace period where you can remain an active member and try the facilities prior to committing to suspending or cancelling your membership. We encourage you to use these three months (1 July – 30 September 2020) to try the additional classes, programmable spaces and facilities at the other three Boroondara Leisure and Aquatic Facilities. If you do not want to continue your membership after this period we will honour a free suspension for the remainder of the closure period.

If I choose to suspend and return to an active membership during the closure period, can I take up the free suspension again?

Once you return from suspension you will no longer be able to access free suspension periods. Once a member on free suspension re-activates their membership any further suspension requests will fall under the standard terms and conditions of suspensions across Boroondara Leisure and Aquatic Facilities.
